The Sephora Spring VIB Sale (aka. Spring Bonus 2018) is coming up this weekend..yayy! Hopefully you are doing you research on your wishlist items! 😉 I am going to share with you today my picks, recommendations, ‘Sephora Favorites,’ whatever you want to call them. These are all of my makeup recs, but to check out my Skincare Edition click here. Also, if you need more details about the sale you can check out my ‘Everything You Need to Know about the Sephora VIB Sale’ post!
For makeup items, I like to go with higher end products that never go on sale! That’s the only way I can justify buying some of them in my mind. When I want to buy a high end makeup product, I’d say $50 or more, I overthink it way too much! I will research for weeks, think about some more…I rarely ever impulse buy expensive makeup. I guess that’s the reason why I am rarely disappointed by the expensive makeup that I do pick up, because I know what to expect!
Let’s Start With the Base
Now is a good time to pick up that summer foundation, there’s a ton of new options right now! I was very excited then ultimately disappointed by the new Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation. (I wrote a review on Instagram.) In short, it left flaky dry patches on my combination skin, probably because of the high alcohol content. Have no fear though, I do have a new foundation that has worked for me and can happily recommend today! The CoverFx Power Play Foundation is everything I wanted Shameless to be…minus the spf. Power Play comes in a whopping 40 shades, is a ‘modern matte’ finish and stays until I take it off. The wear time for this foundation is impressive, and I’m in love! It feels very lightweight on the skin, I forget I am even wearing makeup. It is medium coverage with one layer, but can be built up to full coverage without looking cakey. I love using a matte base when I want to go full glam, then I can create and customize the finish depending on how glowy I want to be for the day. It looks stunning with a dewy setting mist sprayed on top, my favorites so far to use with this foundation is the new Omorovicza Magic Moisture Mist*, CoverFx Illuminating Setting Spray and the TATCHA Dewy Skin Mist. It really is an amazing foundation that I can’t rave about enough lately.
*Full disclosure: The Omorovicza Magic Moisture Mist was gifted to me by the brand.
CoverFx has actually been a brand I have been buying for years and as it slowly starts taking over every makeup category I own, I appreciate the brand more and more. Always dependable, high quality products. I actually haven’t tried a CoverFx product that I don’t like, (ok maybe the Illuminating Primer, not a huge fan.) I use their Perfect Setting Powder daily, and am really loving their Clear Cover Sunscreen that I cannot currently find online. I’m kinda panicking a bit. They make fantastic base products and should definitely be considered.
I’m sure you have seen the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam palette all over social media and YouTube by now, however I still have a lot of people telling me they are waffling on whether or not to purchase. Probably because it does contain 3 repeat shades as Modern Renaissance, which I probably wouldn’t have noticed if it wasn’t pointed out to me! Just being honest. I personally love the palette, and while I do also have the Modern Renaissance palette, I didn’t think twice about purchasing when released. I’m a neutral lover, so if you love neutrals, can’t get enough, you will love this palette too! Do I probably have similar shades in my eyeshadow collection already? yes. But having them all put together in a gorgeous palette apparently sealed the deal for me! The quality is the same as Modern Renaissance, so no need to worry about crazy fallout. This palette is a winner in my book and gets a ton of use already!
Another new palette that doesn’t get enough love on social media in my opinion, the Viseart Petite PRO 2 Palette. I love the shades that are included and have created some unique eye looks with it already. I have used it by itself, with only the shades included, but I think it is a palette that works best with their Neutral Matte Palette for more blending shades. It’s not necessarily an all-in-one palette, I mean it only has eight shades. It is gorgeous though and Viseart has some of the best eyeshadows in my very humble opinion. I have my eye on their new Tryst Eyeshadow Palette, I have seen swatches and it is gorgeous! Do I need another neutral palette, probably not. But it is calling my name!
Another eyeshadow palette that gets a ton of use is the Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Eyeshadow Palette in Scandalust. It isn’t a new release, but it is a great quality palette that works for day or evening looks. I would love to pick up another MJ Palette (or three!) during the sale myself! The matte shades are so finely milled and easy to blend, while the shimmer shades really pack a punch. It is such an effortless palette that I have created everyday natural looks to full drama.
Another brand that has continually impressed me is Hourglass. I had the opportunity to test out their new Arch Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel from Influenster and it is amazing. I probably wouldn’t have chose it on my own, but now I use it everyday and need to buy a new one because I have almost used the entire tube! It is the same type of product as the Benefit Gimme Brow that everyone loves, only with a better formula and brush. I think the brush is the reason I enjoy it so much, tbh. It is curved and a little awkward to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s fantastic! It creates the most natural looking brows, especially in the tricky front brow area that can often look too overdone. The unique brush on the Hourglass gel allows for the perfect amount of product to be placed, even in the sparsest hairs. Trust me, my brows are sparse and very fine. This Hourglass brow gel makes them look full and amazing, but never harsh. I’m a fan.
So I finally tried a sample of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer….I’m completely late to the party! However, now I know why everyone loves this primer so much. It makes my skin look and feel like velvet, plus it contains spf 15 with no flashback. I’m definitely picking up a full size bottle. You could actually buy the travel size bottle and that would last a good while as it doesn’t take much of this magical velvet to cover your face!
So I haven’t purchased very many highlighters over the past year, which is completely unlike me. I think the reason being is 1. everything is unicorn and 2. I’m really happy with my current highlighter stash. Mainly my Tom Ford Sheer Highlighting Duo, Dior Nude Air Luminizer, and CoverFx Custom Enhancing Drops. I love to glow just as much as the next makeup diva, but I think my taste in highlighter has changed this past couple of years. I like a more sophisticated glow for my day-to-day mom duties. Then on days when I want to be a glowing goddess, I layer CoverFx enhancer drops underneath. A more strategic glow, if you will. For a golden glow I will use CoverFx Moonlight then layer Tom Ford on top. When I want to rock the holo trend I use CoverFx Halo then layer Dior Holo Gold on top. Instant glowing goddess.
I think that’s it! I have really been into using up some of my current makeup stash so I haven’t been buying all the new releases! You may also have noticed that I don’t have any lip products above, and that’s because I have been crushing hard on the ColourPop Lux Lipsticks ever since they launched last month! They have great pigmentation, stay longer than my expensive lippies, the package is gorgeous and the price is right! I’ve been using my typical nude glosses for everyday, a constant rotation of Buxom Lip Cream in White Russian, Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Sugar Sugar, and Dior Lip Maximizer in Beige Sunrise. What can I say? I like a minty, light nude gloss!
