Hi everyone! Welcome to This Country Girl’s Blog! My name is Heather and I wanted to take a minute to tell you a little about myself and why I decided to start TCG! I started posting skincare and makeup on my Instagram page early 2017, and fell in love with the social connection and sharing beauty with others. Not only that, but being a stay at home mom for the past 8 years, some days tend to feel like auto-pilot. So when I started posting, my brain was awakened and my creative side felt alive again!
I am 33 years old, I am a wife and mother, and have been married for 8 years. You guessed it, I’m from “the country.” I live in a small, rural town in Oklahoma. Population 1,279! I am Native American, Cherokee to be exact. I love to do all the outdoor activities one might expect. Like fishing, riding four wheelers, and of course there’s farm animals. I also love doing crafty things as well, like scrapbooking, woodworking, and building furniture. My guilty little pleasure is binge watching crime shows while online shopping!
My passion is skincare, with of course a side of makeup too. I guess I have always loved the world of beauty. In high school I remember doing up-dos for Homecoming in the basketball locker room, makeup for Prom, and even did hair for an entire Bridal Party. The practical side of me told me to choose a more realistic career than the beauty industry, so I decided not to pursue my passion. I ended up going to college for many years, to pursue a Biology degree, then a Biology Education degree, then I finally entered a RN program. Life happened, I didn’t finish my Bachelor’s, and my passion for beauty remains. I guess that’s how it goes!
Skincare, to me, is an experience that is very soothing to my soul. A ritual of self-love. It’s about creating a space for yourself to reflect on you. Skincare is deeply personal. The type of products, their ingredients and purpose vary from person to person. Everyone has a skincare theory (that I will write a post about soon.) My blog will be a collection of all types of skincare. The products that I use in real life. Skincare can be very confusing, even to me. I still look up ingredients in my dictionary at least once a week. My goal is to help others (and myself) better understand skincare ingredients to learn what a product can do for skin. Then, we don’t have to rely on the sometimes misleading marketing of the beauty industry.
I AM very passionate about science and skincare, and that passion has led me to do a lot of research. Research on products, ingredients, and case studies. However, that in no way makes me an expert! I am just a regular consumer and mom, just like many of you! I am simply sharing my experiences, research and opinions of skincare products. Even though I triple check my work and sources for research purposes, there is still a chance that I have made a mistake or have gotten something completely wrong. It happens. I am happy to accept constructive criticism or correct something that is incorrect, because I am not an expert. My judgement, opinion, or recommendations should not be taken above that of your medical professional. I believe that a medical professional is the best resource for the complexity of each individual’s skin concerns.
Skincare (and makeup) are subjective. A particular product may work amazing for my skin, but that does not mean that it may work in the same way for some else’s skin. The best thing I can do is to explain in great detail why I love a product. Or to the contrary, why a product doesn’t work for me. In those details, hopefully you find enough information to decide if it might work for you! I do try and note, when all possible, ingredients that may be problematic for some (ex. essential oils.) However, since anyone can literally be allergic to anything, there is always a chance of an allergic reaction to a particular product, even if the ingredients in that product are not known to cause allergic reactions.
I hope you join me and walk this beauty journey with me! Thank you SO much for reading and allowing me to share my thoughts with you.
